I ain’t got time for that

It’s been a while! 🫡

I was travelling for a couple of weeks, and I thought maybe I’d do some light work while abroad, including keeping up with these fortnightly newsletters.

Well, I was wrong. I practically got no work done at all and have no regrets. 😂

But with holiday mode and the Chinese New Year festivities winding down (happy CNY btw!), I’m kicking back into high gear—including finally resolving some technical website issues. Which is the focus of today’s email.

I’ve been procrastinating on tackling these issues for months, but my website host recently sent an email that effectively gave me until mid-March to fix things. So, I had to finally get down to it…

…not by myself, though.

I hired a freelance web developer to help. And I’m loving how my website issues are getting fixed by a professional, with little involvement from me. Worth it!

In the past, I would have likely tried to figure out my own solutions to save money. But over time, life has gotten busier, and the opportunity cost of DIY-ing has become significantly higher.

For example, in the hour(s) that I spend on trial and error now, I could instead work on client projects to earn money—money that I can use to pay others for their help and save myself the hassle.

This is especially true if I’m not an expert in the area I’m facing issues with. Who knows if the time I spend trying to solve the problem will pay off?

So, when deciding whether to DIY or delegate, I like to think of the analysis as being the opposite of deciding on your freelance service:

When deciding your freelance service, it helps to pick a skill that you’re good at, you like to do and others will pay you to do.

In contrast, if:

• You’re NOT good at something you need to do,
• You DON’T like doing it, and/or
• You can pay others to do it for you,

Then consider outsourcing it!

Free up your time, and free up your mental energy, so you can focus on doing the things that can get you a higher ROI.

Deliveroo is ending its Singapore operations on 4 Mar 2026

The food and groceries platform is closing shop here because “the level of investment required is not aligned with [its] long-term strategy”.

Deliveroo platform workers can still deliver orders until 3pm on 4 Mar. The platform will also process payments as per normal on this date. After that, Deliveroo will settle any outstanding payments owed on 10 Mar.

If you’re a member of NTUC’s National Delivery Champions Association, you can approach the association to get help with matters like payment and switching to other delivery platforms.
